Leadership and Personal Coaching

When two people meet there are really six present,
There is each man as he sees himself,
Each man as the other sees him,
And each man as he really is.
- William James

Leadership coaching is about developing yourself as a leader and a person. Barnum’s coaching process is a highly individualized and mutually designed relationship tailored to meet your needs and life experience. Coaching will increase your self-awareness and understanding of what works for you and what might be limiting your effectiveness.

You provide the interest and motivation and Barnum will provide the insights, guidance and tools for you to meet your personal and leadership goals. In support of coaching we may use several assessments, including 360 feedback, which are used at the discretion of the coach.
Leadership development is an ongoing process. The duration and intensity will vary according to individual needs. The process consists of personal meetings, telephone conferences and email contact.

Please contact us so we may explore the options available to meet your individual needs.

Team Effectiveness Workshop

Understanding the concepts of mutual leadership, mutual commitment, mutual trust, common goals and approach, and shared influence

Today most of us work in at least one team. Many of us are working cross-culturally in virtual teams. Often our challenge is how to leverage the diversity each team brings.

Barnum likes to keep things simple…maybe not always easy…but simple. Barnum’s team model of a 3 legged stool is based on the idea that 3 legs are more stable than 4 when on an uneven (diverse) surface. This model represents the need for all 3 legs to be in place to function and leverage the diverse strengths of the group.

Often workshops can become an “event” if there is no follow through. We have created an internet based Team Coaching Tool for the purpose of easy and quick resource.

Leader as Coach Workshop

Before you are a leader,
success is all about growing yourself.
When you become a leader,
success is all about growing others.
- Jack Welch

Those leader/coaches that are most successful keep in mind the purpose is to work with a valuable resource towards the ultimate goal of improving business performance.
Today’s business environment requires ongoing feedback, both reinforcing and supportive as well as critical. Most leaders rely on the once or twice a year performance review give feedback. By that time it is often long after troublesome behaviors have been in place. Creating a culture of regular, ongoing feedback helps to build greater collaboration, effectiveness, productivity, and higher morale. There is also indication that a culture that promotes regular open communication creates greater levels of trust.

Many managers are reluctant to coach because it takes time and they are uncomfortable or uncertain because they do not know how to give feedback (particularly critical feedback), what to say, how to handle a sensitive or difficult personality, they may even have concern about being “too personal”, etc.

Barnum’s Leader as Coach provides the understanding and practice with how to give feedback on a regular basis and, importantly, how to give productive and meaningful critical feedback.

Experiential Learning
 By Betty Forbis

Funny isn’t it….you know certain concepts, you believe them, you talk about them, you use them then – somehow - you get surprised! I know about experiential learning…. learning while doing, hands on learning, whatever you want to call it. I have believed in it, talked about it and have been working with it
for over 40 years. Even so, recently I was surprised.

Read about Betty interviewing former participants of Barnum ECL.
